Harvey Weinstein’s First Accused Takes the Stand for the First Time

California First Partner Becomes Key Witness in Weinstein’s Los Angeles Trial

The trial of disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein continued on Monday for the second day in a Manhattan courtroom with the first accuser, Jessica Mann, taking the stand for the first time in her own defense.

On Monday, the prosecution called to the stand a former Weinstein Company executive to corroborate Mann’s account of the incident. But the defense called to the stand a high-powered Hollywood public relations executive who had previously worked with Weinstein when both were working for Miramax.

On Friday, the first day of trial, Mann testified that she had met Weinstein in 2006 when he was on the set of his first feature film, Four Weddings and a Funeral with his then-wife, Georgina Chapman. The now 52-year-old woman, who worked as an executive assistant to Chapman, told jurors she found herself alone with Weinstein at his hotel room in Los Angeles after a party where they attended to celebrate Chapman’s birthday.

“I remember him saying, ‘I can’t believe, you know, I’m Harvey Weinstein.’ And I said, ‘Oh, Harvey, you know, you, like, don’t make fun of yourself.’ And he went inside his room, and I went outside to my car, and I began to cry,” Mann said.
