Roger Federer set to play ‘special’ final match of career on Friday with Rafael Nadal
The all-time greatest men’s doubles player in tennis history will be playing an all-new match on Friday night at the Dubai Tennis Championships — but it doesn’t involve Rafael Nadal.
Roger Federer may choose to play in all-new circumstances at the Dubai event, the first time he has missed a major finals since winning Wimbledon in 2013.
Federer’s partner, Swiss doubles world No. 1 Swissmen partner Nick Kyrgios, is also set to play in the special final match, but the Swiss star told BBC’s Sportsound podcast that he is taking no chances with his health in the final match against Kyrgios.
“I am playing in my first final,” Kyrgios said. “I’m not gonna take any chances.”
Rafael Nadal, who is considered to be the all-time greatest men’s singles player, is scheduled to play his final match on Friday evening against Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro “with great expectations.” Federer is playing his final match against Kyrgios on Tuesday.
Federer’s first final, featuring an expected absence of all-world men’s singles players, is the perfect final for any tennis fan who loves watching tennis on the grandest stage.
